Guten Tag Berlin

Hello My Lovelies or as the Germans say Guten Tag!

As promised this is my post all about my trip to Berlin! I went to Berlin in July 2010 with my sister, (my travel buddy!) she had been to Germany before but I had never been and didn't know what to expect.
We stayed in a Best Western central to the city and the underground which meant we could easily visit all of the main tourist sites.

The first place we visited was the Brandenburg Gate very early before any of the touristy people turn up i.e men dressed in World War II army outfits etc. which meant we got to really see it and take some wonderful pictures.

Brandenburg Gate.

Then just literally around the corner is the Reichstag (the Parliament building) which again is advisable to get to as early as possible as a queue does form. You don't get to see much of the building just straight to the roof which is a shame. After we had been to the Reichstag we went for breakfast as it was still really early and then walked around the city till we got to Checkpoint Charlie and then on to the Berlin Wall (the parts that still exist!) The Berlin Wall was actually fascinating and to think for so long the German people were separated by it until 1989 when it was pulled down.

Checkpoint Charlie & the Berlin Wall.

Next was lunch at the Berlin T.V Tower which is a viewing tower and a revolving restaurant at the top-I had never been to a restaurant like this before so that was a new experience and one I have since repeated by going to one in Brussels.

View from the T.V Tower, the shadow is the tower!

Once we had taken photographs of the views of Berlin, we headed out for ice-cream and then back to the hotel as we were shattered.

The second day we went to the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. I knew this was going to be a really interesting day trip but also a very moving one. We had an amazing tour guide that we booked through viators (a brilliant website!) and he talked us through everything we saw and answered any questions we had. We spent the whole day at the camp and is some thing I will remember for ever.

So that is my trip to Berlin in a nut shell...if you want to know more than please ask!

Also would you like to read some more of my city experiences? I've been to Rome, Valencia, Prague, Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg, Pisa, Florence, Dublin, New York, Phuket, Bangkok (where I was stranded for 10 days!!) If any of these take your fancy then leave me comment below!

Till next time,

Two Amazing European Cities!

Hello My Lovelies,

This post is all about my all time favourite European cities that I have visited- My sister and I love to travel we've been to loads of places all over the world both together and separately with our friends. The next couple of posts will be about my 2 most enjoyed cities!

First up is PARIS!

I first went to Paris with a school trip in year 9 in the middle of July-now July in Paris is ridiculously hot and it was horrid. We traipsed round the city/Disney and it was so hot people were fainting and I thought at that young age I don't know if I ever want to come here again. Then in 2011 my sister and I decided that we wanted to go to Paris and visit all the sites....

My sister & I at the Champs Elysees.

We stayed at a really cute hotel near to the Eiffel Tower and used the world famous hop on hop off buses to get around the city, though we did use the metro too which was nice and easy to use.
When we travelled to Paris it was spring time and for me the best time to visit as I could wear my blazers on the sunnier days and a winter coat for the colder days, I also wore comfortable shoes for all the walking!
Paris was so different this time I loved the Eiffel Tower especially at night it was so magical! When I came to Paris as a teen the Eiffel Tower was closed as the workers were on a strike, so this time I made sure I got to go up and take in the view across all of Paris (it was a bit windy and I'm scared of heights but it was 100% worth it!)

Eiffel Tower at night.

We had lunch by the river Seine and I got to have a go at using my very basic French (well I had to try didn't I!) and then walked along to Notre Dame Cathedral which was just beautiful and was built in 1163,amazing!

Notre Dame Cathedral.

Then we went to the Louvre to check out the Mona Lisa-it was a bit of a scramble to see her but we did eventually get to see the famous Leonardo Da Vinci painting.

In the evening we popped along to check out the Moulin Rouge building (not the show, too pricey and the reviews weren't all that good!)

The only place I didn't get to visit; because at the time I didn't know exist was the Love Bridge, where all the padlocks are! I really hope to go back to Paris so I will get to see this next time. I also really want to make sure I pick up some French beauty bits and bobs...

I have to say I'm so glad that I decided to go back to Paris as an adult and NOT in summer, that's some thing I would never do-even Parisians spend the summer by the beach! Paris totally lived up to the hopes I had for it and more.

Have you visited Paris? What did you think of the city, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Next time Berlin!

We are definitely going to try out one of the spa's (not sure which yet though....) we might also go on a day trip to Vienna and would love some tips for there too. Restaurants, places to go in the eve anything so that we get to see the best of Budapest!
