A trip to the North!

Hello My Lovelies,

So at the end of 2013 I wrote a post stating things I wanted to do in 2014, one of these things was to go to York to visit my old university pal and to take a day trip to Blackpool as it's a place I've always wanted to visit. So with a bit of organising my friend Lynz and I met up in London a couple of weeks ago and took the 2.5 hour train up to York where Manx (that's not her actual name, though it would be great if it was!) and her husband John met us and we took a little drive back to their cute barn conversion house!
The following day we all got up and drove to Blackpool! First stop our little group all got to go up the Blackpool Tower and got to see far and wide from the very top, which is in the freezing cold and where I got totally wind swept.

On our way down the tower we stopped off and went into the ballroom- it's totally not expected where I thought it would be; I imagined a grand door and a well lit room, in fact what I found was a dim seating area that took you straight back to the 1930's. You could imagine all the girls and boys coming to dance the night away, and the architecture was just beautiful.

I have never ball room danced but the music being played by the man on the Wurlitzer and the couples already dancing made me want to jump up and join them. Luckily for my friends and those there I restrained myself and just swayed to the music in my chair! After seeing the ballroom I've decided I need to go back and watch the last series of Strictly Come Dancing especially the episode where they go to Blackpool.

Next up was some obligatory seaside food...Fish & Chips!! Then it was off to the pier for a look, though it was a little depressing as it was so dead so we didn't hang around for long. Then we a nice walk back along the seafront to look at the comedy carpet opposite the tower which is a floor full of comedy quotes, we could of spent hours looking and reading them all!

Finally we had enough time to go and pick up some rock and have a quick drink before it was time to make the longggg journey back to York.

On my last full day Manx, Lynz and I went into York. We firstly hit up Fenwicks where I could not resist buying my second Mac lipstick in the shade 'Chatterbox', which is now by far my favourite lipstick! We then went for lunch at the world famous Betty's Tea Room.

I decided to have the Welsh rarebit with a pot of tea, and my companions had pancakes and tea cakes with tea-it was delicious and the surroundings were pretty cool too.

Any then before we knew it our few days visiting the North were over and we had to jump on the train back to London or for me back to my little isle. I had such a fab time and I can't wait for our next visit!!

Have you ever visited York or Blackpool, leave me a comment!

Till next time,
                    Tori.
                          X

  1. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! I have been to the Blackpool tower before but it was so long ago that I can't remember what it was like! I think we went to see the illuminations or something! Seeing your blog post has made me want to visit again!

  2. Blackpool is somewhere that's never really appealed to me.. I've been once and wasn't too impressed. I find it very much ;ike my own seaside town, run down, old and in need of new councillors that actually want people to stay and have things to do on rainy days!.. (sorry, for the rant, it's an age old argument with our council who are buzz kills!).. anyways.. Blackpool. When I visited, we didn't go to the tower, which I would of liked to do. The picture above is exactly how I'd imagine it, but I'm sure the architecture makes up for it.
York, on the other hand, is lovely! I love visiting. There's so much to see and do. I haven't been to Betty's, so will put that on my list! :)

    1. Hi Caroline,
I've always wanted to explore the North a bit more and Blackpool and Liverpool were on the list...Blackpool is very run down much like where I live actually-but I guess that's part of the charm? You're right York is beautiful!

  5. {just popping over from last nights #lbloggers chat] :-)

I think Blackpool is one of my favourite places - I love the fact that's it's very much 'what you see is what you get' and it's not trying to be fancy or anything, it's juts good old fashioned seaside fun and chips! I loved the Tower Ballroom as well, we just sat there captivated by the organist and were amazed at the architecture - you can't imagine anything on the same scale being built today! :-) x
